The town was named for the historic 137-foot-tall lighthouse at the head of the Hillsboro Inlet, which can be found just to the south of the city proper on a white, sandy beach surrounded by palm trees. This town of just over 10,000 people is located midway between Ft. Lauderdale and Delray Beach. It lies just west of the scenic Intracoastal Waterway, and the famed Hillsboro Mile stretch of A1A. Its western corridor is Federal Highway, which has numerous options for fine dining and luxury lifestyle shopping.
An Ideal Setting for Active Families
Lighthouse Point is built around family and community. Some 80% of the homes are single-family. The Doris Gauthier Lighthouse Point Library is an award-winning local library that serves the Lighthouse Point community. It features over 40,000 items in print, including new books and best sellers, DVDs, and audio books. Residents can attend classes to learn a new language, practice yoga, or learn to knit and crochet, among many other opportunities.
Lighthouse Point is an intimate enclave less than 2.5 square miles in size, yet boasts an impressive 18 miles of waterways. They weave through the town’s neighborhoods, offering many luxury homes with direct access to the Intracoastal. They outnumber even the city’s impressive 13 miles of sidewalks and cycling paths, which provide plenty of opportunities to stroll, jog, and bike. Nearly 20 acres of public parks lie within the city limits. Just to the west of Lighthouse Point, the city jointly maintains an additional 14-acre natural area with the nearby City of Pompano Beach.
In addition to preserving green space, these parks offer playgrounds, sports fields, volleyball courts, and even clay tennis courts with an adjoining pro shop that provides lessons. The parks also host concerts, activities for children, and other cultural events.
